Tottenham agree deal to buy Djed Spence from Middlesbrough

The fee is understood to be about twenty million dollars, and Spurs have agreed on a deal to buy him. A month ago, the England Under-21s right-back finished a season on loan at Nottingham Forest, where he played a part in their promotion to the premier league.

One of the country's most highly regarded young defenders, who was born in London, was named in the Professional Footballers' Association's Championship team of the season.

The 21-year-old had been considering staying with Forest but decided to join Spurs. In the 2021-22 season, the preferred option for the Spurs was Emerson Royal, along with Matt Doherty and Japhet Tanganga.

The general policy of signing young talent with potential sell-on value is what fits with the Spurs' targeting of Spence. Ivan Perisic is leaving Internazionale at the end of his contract, so they abandoned that.

Since December of last year, Spence has held down a regular Championship place. He was a member of the England Under-21s in March.

There is a chance that Forest could replace him with the Troyes player, who has been on loan from Manchester City. The club is interested in both Neco Williams and Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

It was hoped that the Egypt forward, who recently finished a loan at VfB Stuttgart, would be a success for the club.

The sale of Carter-Vickers to Celtic was announced by the Spurs.
