https://ift.tt/h9la7Eg The article was published on 8 June 2022. Small pleasures. Channel 4's coverage of the game between Germany and England did not take us back to the painful days of the 'full navy outfit' that was described to him before the game in Hungary. It was difficult to tell who found that particular episode more toe-curling, us or the England manager, who calmly replied, "It's very hot so I don't think the jacket will be staying on... but we are looking forward." Before Michael Owen closed the discussion with a self-deprecating line about his own dress sense as a teenager, Breach went into the realm of Southgate's waistcoat and polka-dot tie. The idea of rigorous football talk is no longer in fashion. The soft music playing 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- 888-565- Jules Breach had a chat with England's boss. Owen got his share of stick but he was the one putting the hard yards. There was a long walk with Breach around the Olympic Stadium, where he scored his hat-trick in the win. Owen was taking a picture of Breach. Fans meet Owen in the main square. Owen was in the room that he stayed in. His story of how he accidentally swapped his shirt after the game, yet was able to get it back, was a rare addition to the football understanding. The segment was going on forever. Proper entertainment would have been seeing Roy's response to the interviewer. Owen had his moments on the merits of a back three and four, but it took a long time for the analysis to break out. The studio output had all of the qualities of cardboard, with Breach introducing Owen at the start as the father of Love Island's Gemma Owen. The coverage of England at the Nations League has all the appeal of a piece of cardboard. Michael Owen was taken on a seemingly endless tour around the area. "I came all the way to Germany to avoid all that back at home, and you brought it up straight away," said one of England's greatest strikers. Don't bring it back up because this is taking my mind off it. Along with Owen and Joe Cole was Jordan Nobbs, who provided a dash of cool though not a whole lot more. There were no compelling voices that other broadcasters found. There wasn't a single German knowledge in the studio. Archie Rhind-Tutt, who provided excellent insight, was stuck on the touchline with Channel 4's Somers, fielding jokes about his garish jacket There is no time to report, analyse, debate, or disagree in the pursuit of entertainment. The problem with pursuing entertainment like this is that it replaces rigorous football analysis. We will always be able to say that we've seen Jack Grealish and Declan Rice play Pictionary together. There was no mention of the teenager who chose to play for Germany instead of England. There were a few moments in the two broadcasts of the past few days, one of which was when Breach backheeled a stray ball past Owen's face to Nobbs, who cleared it back on to the pitch. This doesn't feel like a progression. Before the Hungary match, Breach said that football was coming to a new home. It doesn't feel the same as the last one.
